The way most U.S.-based wireless carriers control their home WAP decks and wireless Internet experience needs to change, according to experts. Although it is true that the whole wireless Internet is available on most cellphones these days (xHTML sites, at least), the practice of getting anywhere outside the carrier's content can be maddening. As always, carriers want to monetize every possible thing they can -- ringtones, wallpapers, games, applications -- so those are the most common things pointed to on cellphone screens. But, if wireless operators want to get in on the innovation that surrounds the entire Internet, they'll have to open up the full Internet to customers and develop partnerships with the companies that are innovating in the Internet space instead of tightly controlling the wireless Internet experience for customers.
