CDMA development group defines faster version of 3G data speeds

CDMA carriers like Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel and Alltel have been releasing EV-DO 3G networks in many markets across the U.S. lately, and even Sprint Nextel has released EV-DO Rev. A markets already, which promises even faster speeds than the 400-700kbps speeds that the current EV-DO technology provides.

But, for those who can't get enough speed, the CDMA Development Group (CDG) this week announced preliminary details of EV-DO Rev. C, which uses additional technologies to squeeze even more data into a fixed amount of spectrum.

In EV-DO Rev. C, the new standard will incorporate just about every advanced standard to ensure the fastest mobile speeds available anywhere will happen -- technologies like CDMA, TDM, OFDM, Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) and Space Division Multiple Access (SDMA) advanced antenna techniques will be used in the upcoming EV-DO Rev. C standard, which will be called Ultra Mobile Broadband and will be capable of download speeds up to 280 Mpbs.
