Portland, Oregon's free WiFi network launches

Yesterday the free muni WiFi network in Portland, Oregon officially launched. The network, created and managed by MetroFi, covers a portion of the downtown area as well as some outlying neighborhoods. MetroFi says it's goal is to cover 95 percent of the city by 2008.
This is certainly a major development in the growth of citywide wireless networks and bodes well for more cities to jump on the bandwagon in 2007.

1. I've heard about this as though it has actually happened... so when *will* it actually happen? So far, I haven't found wifi, except to hunt down scattered businesses here and there that have their own... *shrug*
