The advent of WiFi-enabled cellphones from the likes of Vonage and Skype is leading to speculation that users will be making calls from open wireless networks, thus increasing the frequency of people piggybacking on others' accessibility.
At this point, WiFi cellphones haven't exactly exploded onto the marketplace--for the most part, consumers are still in the process of upgrading their older cellphones for more feature-enabled ones. It doesn't seem likely that these WiFi handsets will make a huge dent anytime soon, so we're not likely to see a huge proliferation of users moving from hotspot to hotspot in order to make a call.
However, with that being said, the message for those individuals and smaller businesses to secure their wireless networks becomes even stronger. If you don't want a stranger "borrowing your bandwidth" for these purposes, then take the time to secure your network.
