Sony Ericsson makes it official, buys UIQ from Symbian

Sony Ericsson finally
bought its longtime smartphone partner UIQ from Symbian, as the world's fourth-largest handset maker aims to control the company that is used on an increasing array of higher-end smartphones as well as some mid-level phones these days.
UIQ is the division of smartphone operating system Symbian that makes software almost exclusively for Sony Ericsson. In fact, it's been said that UIQ was basically being subsidized by Symbian just for Sony Ericsson, according to Dean Bubley, a wireless telecom analyst.
