A new and injectable chip made by a subsidiary of VeriChip will now make it possible to have
real-time glucose monitoring for diabetic patients in standard RFID fashion. The chip does away with the need for typical painful finger pricks that are normally needed to read body glucose level.
The implanted chip transmits the information to a scanner and are passive, so no battery is required. With 230 million people in the world who are diabetic, this is a great new use of RFID-like technology that can actually make life easier for diabetics who no longer need to prick themselves every day to read a rather important piece of data about their bodies.
