With several larger carriers in the U.S. and other countries these days, has wireless service become commoditized? Of course, the carriers would say no, but when a customer is in a town or city with complete coverage by three or four carriers, it is easily seen how at least voice service is seen as one in the same by millions of consumers. How does one differentiate itself? Complete coverage, great prices, etc. are somewhat of a commodity (prices vary widely, of course), but one of the real kickers is equipment selection, and that point of difference is becoming more and more important as voice and minutes plans become more alike. Ever trade your phone in and change carriers based on phone selection alone?
