Despite pockets of poverty throughout the country, India is now the world's fastest-growing cellular market in the world. According to the Cellular Operators Association of India, the country added 5.9 million subscribers last month, topping China's total of 5.19 million.
Obviously, the influx of money from American companies outsourcing services to India has made some difference in giving the Indian people an opportunity to afford items like cellphones, but cellphones by and large have become cheaper anyway. Today's New York Times provides an example whereby India's per-minute charges rank among the lowest in the world, with one deal that offers a lifetime of unlimited incoming calls for a one-time fee of 1,000 rupees ($21.75).
There are certainly opportunities in the country for cellular providers from all over, and you can bet they will do everything they can to take advantage of it.

Hilarious, this is the American view of the world that's going to get the country into big trouble.
India is growing on all fronts not just outsourcing, in fact it is a small part of the economy.
Measuring subscriber growth is a fantastic meter of economic growth spread amongst the populous.
India's growth story is one of internal restructuring with liberalized polices which is finally promoting entrepreneurship and a fair work environment.
Foreign companies have come to capitalize on these changes… its not India taking away jobs from others.
Please stop the arrogance before you get a rude awakening in a few years from India and China.
