This has to be one of the neater entertainment distribution deals I've seen in a while. A veteran comedy writer for the David Letterman "Late Show" and "The Simpsons" was finding it harder and harder to get networks to pick up his own comedy-themed productions. Enter a strange partner -- amp'd mobile.Amp'd called Donick Cary, the comedy writer, with a deal -- amp'd would produce his show -- with no creative oversight -- and make it available to amp'd mobile subscribers over-the-air. Talk about alternative distribution -- from being shot down at the major television networks to having an entire product produced with little to no creative interference. What a deal, Cary must have thought.
The "Lil Bush" series went live on amp'd mobile handsets on September 1, and with amp'd having said that it wants to be a "mobile entertainment company" rather than a "cellphone company", this kind of unique content production and distribution qualifies. Kudos to amp'd mobile on this one.
