Lucent's recent merger leads to company name change

With the once-great American telecom company name now going away -- partially -- the new company f
ormed by the recent Alcatel and Lucent Technologies merger will lead to a company named "Alcatel Lucent", the companies announced today.
Without any fanfare (for obvious reasons), the new company, once the merger is completed and the integration starts, will become a powerful force in the telecom sector, including the wireless infrastructure sector as it takes Nokia Networks and LM Ericsson on head-to-head for wireless equipment sales and service.
