NTT DoCoMo has teamed up with Aquafairy (love that name) to introduce micro-sized fuel cells meant to be used with NTT DoCoMo's 3G FOMA handsets -- actually, it's a polymer/electrolyte fuel cell that uses water as the main ingredient.
With a portable charging unit (no wall outlet needed), this technology is meant for those who need massive amounts of portable, rechargeable battery power for their mobile communications without being tied to an AC adapter or vehicle power source. In Japan, 3G handsets are used so extensively for Internet access and voice calls that battery technology is a real issue there.
