Portland, Oregon city council approves citywide network contract with MetroFi

It was pretty much a done deal anyway, but the Portland, Oregon City Council officially approved the contract with MetroFi to develop and deploy a free wireless network to cover the entire city.
The plan is to cover the downtown area first and expand the network over the next 12 to 24 months. Basic access to the network is free with support through advertising. Users can pay up to $20 a month to not see any ads and for a faster connection.
