Companies vying to win Grand Rapids citywide network bid

Nine companies, none of which were revealed at this time, are vying to win the bid to build a citywide wireless network for Grand Rapids, Michigan. According to city officials, a condition that the bidders must meet is that they will build, own, and manage the network at no cost to the city or taxpayers.

Here's the timeline for the project:

  • Finalists will be selected on May 30 (no word yet as to how many finalists will be chosen)
  • Interviews will be conducted with the finalists on June 12
  • The winning bidder will be chosen on July 13
  • Development of the network begins during the week of October 22

It appears that Grand Rapids has its ducks in a row, so it'll be interesting to see who will win the bid.
