Intel creates another push in the WiMAX space

In what could set a precedent in several areas of the world considering WiMAX as a solution for wireless internet access (to supplement or enhance the limitation of traditional WiFi), Intel Capital is joining forces with Pipex Communications to promote the development of WiMAX technology in London's suburbs and ourlying areas, including the Manchester area to start with.

WiMAX will be hitting the mainstream - however you define it - by 2008 most likely and I stand my assertion that it will be somewhat to very disruptive in the internet access arena alone, possibly spreading to traditional communications as well. With the capability of the technology and the way in which is doesn't require all the expensive and time-consuming cable and physical locality deployment, WiMAX may be the way we get voice and data to the home for many millions of rural customers in several parts of the world here shortly.
