Vodafone has selected Siemens AG to transition its rather-new UMTS wireless network in Germany to HSDPA -
upping the wireless data speeds pretty significantly along the way. Due to
not using in-house engineering and
RF staff, Vodafone also said they'll let go about 500 workers from Germany operations.
With
T-Mobile coming on strong as well in the move from UMTS to HSDPA in Germany, Vodafone's only choice to continue to
compete for the wireless data mavens who crave broadband on the move anywhere was to get its German HSDPA transition
rather quickly beyond the four initial German cities that already have been upgraded to HSDPA.
