This fall, our neighbors in Canada will be the beneficiaries of what is said to be the
country's fastest wireless voice and data network.
Rogers Wireless has announced its high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) service, which the company says will bring the Internet to cellphones at peak downlink speeds of 14.4 megabits per second and twice that of EV-DO. The company claims HSPDA will allow more people to connect to the system at one time and give them the opportunity to perform tasks such as videoconferencing and transfer of large data files.
The announcement was Rogers' response to Bell Mobility's upgrade to EV-DO technology last fall, so it seems the race to bring faster wireless data speeds to customers is not just limited to the U.S. market.
