Just in time for the holidays, the city of San
Francisco has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to all interested
vendors interested in building the proposed citywide wireless network. Mayor Gavin Newsom has pledged that the network
will accessible to all residents either for free or at affordable costs. The deadline to submit information is
Februrary 21.
The mayor's TechConnect initiative is crucial to his plan to bring broadband accessibility to all residents and economic development to the city. With Wireless Philadelphia currently under construction, this is arguably the next BIG municipal WiFi project in the U.S. You can bet that vendors of all shapes and sizes will be submitting their data within the next 60 days. We'll be watching closely to see who has the inside track on getting the gig.
